Part I: Scenes 1 & 2
A drifter's ride on the rails comes to an end as his train approaches a railyard. He plans to catch out the next train going north in hopes of finding a few days work at a construction site. He jumps from the boxcar before the train stops to avoid being seen by the railroad security forces. He circles around to the north side of the yard and opens his last can of food as he waits for the northbound to head out. Before it does, he spots a pair of vagrants also looking to catch out the train. The drifter decides to head north on foot to avoid being seen by security or the hobos. He walks the tracks. |
Part II: Scenes 3 & 4
The drifter walks all the way to the next town. Already out of food and money, he alters his plan to to find work and approaches the garage of a house near the railroad tracks. He finds an unlocked garage and boosts some beers and a few items he can sell to a pawn shop to put a few dollars in his pocket. Before he slips away back onto the tracks he finds the house reminds him so much of his former life that he is compelled to see the inside of the house. |
Part III: Scenes 5 & 6
After picking the lock, the drifter helps himself to food in the refigerator and adds some canned goods to his bag. He knows he has enough and should leave, but he continues to wander through the house. While he is going through drawers on the second floor the drifter hears the family arrive home. In panic mode, he attempts to flee but can't get out without being seen. He hides in the laundry room and finds himself in a difficult situation when he is discovered by the family's young daughter. |
